CAGD GETS NEW HEAD
The President, His Excellency, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akuffo- Addo has appointed a new Acting Controller and Accountant-General (CAG) to head the Controller and Accountant-Generals Department following the resignation of Mr. Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem.
About Conference
The Annual Conference of the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) holds significant prominence within the department’s annual schedule. This gathering convenes distinguished personnel from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as well as Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), alongside key stakeholders. The primary objectives of this conference include evaluating the CAGD’s performance in the preceding year, soliciting insights from participants and stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency in the upcoming year, and formulating strategies to institutionalize prevailing best practices.
The forthcoming conference is scheduled to be hosted in Kumasi, situated in the Ashanti Region, and will centre around the theme “Enhancing Economic Growth Through Innovation and Adaptation.”
A total of 700 delegates are actively participating in the two-day event, comprising Heads of Account from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), Regional District Assemblies (MMDAs), and Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs), alongside other pertinent officers. Noteworthy attendees include distinguished individuals from both the private and public sectors, encompassing seasoned Accountants, Revenue, and Financial Management experts.
The focal point of discussions will revolve around the pivotal role of public sector accountants in revenue generation and the effective control or reduction of expenditures. The esteemed lineup of speakers for the conference includes Mr. Mac-Effort Adadey, Director of National Accounts; Madam Genevive Akolgo, Director of Payroll at the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD); Mr. David Agyei Abbam, Municipal Finance Officer for Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA); Dr. Ali Nakyea of Ali Nakyea & Associates; all Deputy Controllers and Accountant-Generals.
Distinguished special guests gracing the occasion include H.E. Alhaji Dr. Bawumia – Vice President of the Republic of Ghana; Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene; Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta – Minister for Finance; Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah – Ashanti Regional Minister; and Hon. Sam Payne, Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), amongst others.
The event will be hosted by Mr. Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, the Controller and Accountant-General of the Republic of Ghana.
Topics for the conference are;
- Improving revenue generation at MMDAs through creativity and innovation.
- Payroll improvement initiatives -Dealing with the menace of unearned salaries.
- Digital transformation and technological innovation, the tax implications.
- Application of laws, standards and technological innovations at covered entities to enhance the quality of financial reporting; the PFM Act 2016, IPSAS and GIFMIS in focus.
The concluding day of the Conference will feature a ceremony where awards will be bestowed upon exemplary members of the Department who have demonstrated outstanding performance and distinction in fulfilling their responsibilities.
